How long have you participated in the sport? How did you get started?
I started training with NET in September of 2010. Prior to that I had been running the local 5k runs for a couple of years. Becky McMorries suggested that I train for a half marathon with her running group. I wasn’t sure how I would ever be able to run 13 miles. But, I signed up with the group anyway, and I’ve been hooked ever since.
What is your favorite race?
Right now my favorite race is the Cowtown Marathon. I never dreamed I would ever run a full marathon and it is still soaking in that I did. It was a very fun and emotional race. All the races I have done have been wonderful. There is nothing that can top the feeling you have when you cross the finish line.
Running Shoe Brand?
I love Asics! They are the ONLY shoe for me. I have tried to like others, but it just hasn’t worked out.
Favorite Long Run/Race Nutrition?
I like the power bar gels strawberry banana with caffeine. They are easy to swallow when you’re in a hurry.
Favorite Post-Race Food?
Muscle Milk Light-chocolate immediately after. And always Mexican food for my post race celebratory meal.
Favorite Piece of Training Equipment/Gear?
My iPhone. I have an awesome playlist on it, and I like the run keeper app talking to me every 5 minutes with pace info and time.
Any advice for other athletes?
My message to other athletes would be to JUST DO IT! Don’t be intimidated by the distances you are working towards. Keep plugging away at it, follow your workout schedules, and you will get there! And it will feel so good! Also, I highly recommend training with a group. I am very inspired by the attitudes, goals, and accomplishments of all of the other members of the NET athletes.
